Who can remember Harry Worth's 'shop window trick' during the opening credits of his show? The ministry of silly walks? Or, the antics and voice of 'Frank Spencer'?

Since the year dot, human kind has enjoyed the short journey between a chuckle and a 'full on' belly laugh, provided by such subtle clichés as the custard pie in the face gag, to the more sophisticated humour of the 'sitcom'.

Let's face it, laughter looks good, feels good, and the experts tell us it does us good! What better medium could there be to spread laughter around the world, and into our homes, than television.

Without a doubt, equalled only by perhaps sport, comedy is the most prolific area of distraction that we seek via the tube.
