The long-running James Bond film series kicked off in tremendous style with this superb action adventure, set in the West Indies. Starring Sean Connery as 007, the 1962 movie sticks reasonably closely to the original Ian Fleming novel, is fast-moving and has some terrific action sequences.

Bond is sent to Jamaica to investigate the mysterious death of a British agent. While he's there, he comes across Crab Key, the island of reclusive Dr Julius No (Joseph Whiteman). Slowly he uncovers the activities of Dr No, who has designs upon the American missile base at Cape Canaveral and plans to blackmail the US...

Although now clearly a period piece, at the time the film must have been a tremendous breath of fresh air, with its debonair hero, exotic locations, brisk pace, witty humour and enlightened approach to sex.

It wasn't just Connery of course, who was turning on the charm. Ursula Andress's infamous beach scene - in which she walks out of the ocean on Crab Key in a bikini - became one of the film's iconic images.

Highly recommended.
