This 1978 John Carpenter slasher movie - now seen as one of the most influential horror movies of its era - still has unbridled power to shock. The film is also notable as it launched the career of Jamie Lee Curtis.

Michael Myers, a murderous lunatic, escapes from his psychiatric hospital and returns to his home town of Haddonfield, intent on reliving his crime. Fifteen years before, on Halloween night, a young Myers had forsaken trick-or-treating to viciously stab his sister Judith to death with a large kitchen knife. Now he is pursued by child psychiatrist Dr Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasence), who has pronounced him to be evil personified.

In Haddonfield, Myers stalks teenager Laurie Strode (Lee Curtis) and some of her friends, with ghastly results...

Highly recommended.
