Despite a fine cast, headed by Kevin Costner and Clint Eastwood, this 1993 drama, directed by Eastwood, never fully delivers but is still very high-quality.
Costner (pictured) - rebelling against his good-guy image - plays Butch Haynes, an escaped convict with a seemingly brutal streak. He kidnaps eight-year-old Phillip Perry (T.J. Lowther, pictured) and goes on the run. As the film unfolds, a strong bond begins to develop between the convict and the boy. Meanwhile Red Garnett (Eastwood) leads an elite team of Texas Rangers in hot pursuit of the duo.
Highly recommended.
Did you know? Clint Eastwood saw this film as a chance to work as a director only. However when Kevin Costner was approached with the film's screenplay, he suggested that Eastwood would be perfect for the role of Red Garnett. Eastwood, realising that his screentime would not major, agreed to the role, leaving most of the time to work behind the camera.
