The eyes of the world are again firmly focused on the Bird's Nest Stadium in Beijing for the Closing Ceremony of the XXIX Olympiad, which starts at 1pm London time and is introduced by Sue Barker and Huw Edwards.

The Chinese are expected to stage another fantastic spectacle full of glitz, glamour and pageantry with thousands upon thousands of fireworks. However, it will have an extra significance to Britain as the Olympic flag is formally handed over to the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, by the Mayor of Beijing, and the nation gets an opportunity to look forward to the 2012 Games in London with an eight-minute segment showcasing the best of London's culture to a global audience of billions.

The Closing Ceremony is preceded at around 12.10pm by a review of the sporting moments and stories that have made a significant impact on the Beijing Games, along with an assessment of its impact and success.

I thought he commentary for the opening ceremony was appaling. It was like being at a wonderful opera sat next to 3 idiots talking over the beautiful music. Subtitles would have been vastly superior.

The highlight program, my fist attempt to see the ceremony only provided minimal coverage. I believe Sir Redgrave got more time. The recording of the full ceremony, which repeat was very welcome was so marred by the commentators. Their commentary was laughable at times. 'It's worth mentioning'
