This 2006 action-adventure treads a well-worn path, is often corny and overlong, but has some thrilling moments. Kevin Costner plays grizzled US Coast Guard veteran Ben Randall, who lost his helicopter crew in a freak accident. In crisis, he accepts a post at a training camp, where he clashes with hotshot recruit Jake Fischer (Ashton Kutcher). Teaching his younger self hard lessons about life, loss and self-sacrifice, Randall learns to accept the failures of his past and pass the baton on to the next generation.
Worth watching, especially for the superb rescue sequences.
