Thomas Telford was responsible for some of the most enduring structures of the Industrial Revolution. During the 18th century he became a cutting-edge engineer and designer who managed to break the boundaries of his profession by taking on seemingly impossible tasks that other engineers wouldn't dare to dream about.
His suspension bridge over the Menai Straits was, at the time, the longest ever built and his spectacular Pontcysyllte Aqueduct over the River Dee in the Vale of Llangollen (pictured) was an integral, but unique, piece of engineering for the UK's canal network.
This programme documents the life and work of this British engineering genius.
